Public Health Education
As populations around the world expand and age, the
demand for public health education has grown. Public health is concerned with
all factors that affect the health of more than one person at a given time. This
includes above all social and physical factors within our environments, but also
relates to trends in choices about food intake and exercise, medical care
organization and financing, and—increasingly though to a lesser
extent—efforts to influence human genetics. Because every human being is
subject to such influences, professional education in public health comprises an
indispensable stepping-stone to the promotion of human health and quality of
life.
Commers Health Consulting assists clients in
providing high quality professional public health
education. We bring significant academic expertise to bear in designing,
implementing, and evaluating professional public health courses, seminars, and
lectures. Educational themes include: models of health etiology, philosophy and
public health, public health and public policy, mass media and public health,
public health ethics, empowerment, healthy cities and municipalities,
socioeconomic health inequity. Though specific courses can easily be designed
around the above-mentioned themes, these are most often woven into disciplinary
courses on: health promotion, health education, public health, patient
education, doctor-patient communication, social psychology, and human ecology.
Professional public health education is most often of
interest to universities. However, all of our courses can easily be adapted to
training modules, seminars, and lectures in applied settings. Further, Commers
Health Consulting will work with clients to custom-design courses, seminars,
lectures, or evaluations of educational efforts on an ad
hoc basis.
